After Hours Clinic

As of June 19, the After Hours Clinic will limit the number of walk-in patients seen each day. FHO doctors may book their own patients into the clinic during regular office hours, so capacity may be reached before the clinic opens. If your doctor is part of the FHO, call their office between 8:30 am and 3:30 pm to check for same-day availability. After Hours Clinics are open to everyone for urgent after-hours care on a first-come, first-served basis, with one immediate concern per visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can attend?

These clinics, provided by the local Family Health Organization physicians, are open to everyone in need of after-hours, urgent care.

Can I book an appointment in advance?

Appointments cannot be booked in advance. Services are provided on a “first come, first serve” basis.

Due to high demand for the walk-in services, the clinic doctors are usually able to address one immediate problem per patient, per visit.

Can I come to the clinic during daytime office hours?

No. The After Hours Clinic runs after hours, not during the daytime on weekdays. The medical staff at the clinic during the day do not work for the After Hours Clinic. They cannot schedule patients for the After Hours Clinic as it is a separate operation.

Can I get my Annual Examination, PAP smear, PSA, Mammogram, Fecal Occult Blood Test, Cholesterol level, Routine vaccination, Driver’s license, etc. done at the clinic?

No, this clinic is strictly for after hours care. Clinic doctors are not providing ongoing “full-service” medical care. Pap smears, physicals, breast examinations, vaccinations, psychotherapy, or counseling are better delivered by your regular family health care provider.

We strive to provide care to all the patients needing urgent medical attention; however, demand for care sometimes exceeds the capacity of the After Hours Clinic. Patients are asked to please arrange an appointment with their own doctor whenever possible. Patients who have needs that are non-urgent, such as medication refills, are also asked to please contact their own family physician directly.

Patients with emergency health concerns should call 911 or report to the nearest hospital’s emergency department.

Where do I find a new Family Physician?

Health Care Connect is a Government of Ontario program that identifies and places unattached patients with family doctors and nurse practitioners. Patients must be registered with Health Care Connect to be matched by a doctor or Nurse Practitioner who is a member of the City of Kawartha Lakes Family Health Team. To register please call 1-800-445-1822.
