Service changes at Bobcaygeon, Fenelon Falls blood collection labs
The City of Kawartha Lakes Family Health Team has made the difficult decision to discontinue providing lab services permanently at our centralized blood collection labs in Fenelon Falls and Bobcaygeon. Both locations have been closed since the beginning of March, due to staffing challenges. Discontinuing lab services will allow us to focus more resources on our mission to expand primary care programs and improve access to primary care for a growing number of patients across our region.
We are optimistic that our registered patients will continue to be able to access lab services with the potential for expanded hours and services in Bobcaygeon under a new provider. It is our understanding that Dynacare has reached an agreement with the Kawartha North Family Health Team to take over blood collection at its Bobcaygeon site. While details are being finalized, Dynacare has indicated they will be providing service at the Bobcaygeon lab five days a week, an increase from our previous hours of two days per week.
All patients of our family health team who have typically used the Fenelon Falls blood collection lab will be able to access lab services in Bobcaygeon. We recognize that the closure of the lab facility in Fenelon Falls may cause disruption for some patients. However, we hope that expanded hours of operation in Bobcaygeon will help minimize any inconvenience.
Until now, our team and the Kawartha North Family Health Team were the only family health teams in Ontario to provide centralized blood collection for our patients. In 2012, we saw there was a need for blood collection services in our community. We took on this responsibility in the short term as an additional service for our patients.
We have not received dedicated funding from the provincial government to provide lab services, which are not considered part of our core mandate. With demand for primary care growing across our region and our population increasing, we have determined we must prioritize all our resources towards improving access to primary care and have opted to reach out to partners like Dynacare to support lab services.

A blood test requisition form and booked appointment are required.
